JULY FAVES

01 August 2013

Sound the 'New Feature Alert' alarm bells - it's time for my first monthly favourites post. I have had a lot of love for a lot of stuff over July, I won't lie, so it was hard picking just one thing from each category - almost like a mother trying to pick her favourite kid, but we got there in the end.

I'd also like to apologise for the picture quality - my iPod has decided to forget what the word focus means, and there's been a lack of natural light the last few days, but hey ho, the show post must go on...

Health and beauty wise, I've been using Wilkinson's own brand body butter to keep my skin all soft and that. I'll be totally honest - I had about a fiver to get shampoo, shower gel and some kind of body moisturiser so I raided Wilkinson and decided to try their own-brand products, as I'd heard that it was good value. Coconut is probably my favourite smell, so like a moth to a flame I was drawn in and after a couple of days my skin felt relatively softer. It's nearly empty so I'm going to branch out into other body butters, but if you want to try it, this pot is only £1.27 at the moment, and I'm sure there were other scents, like mango.

My favourite 'day' of the month was a couple of weeks ago, where we went to the park and then to a friends' birthday party. We spent our time in the park being creative (making a birthday poster for our friend) and just messing around (resulting in a big kind of pile-on situation) and it was just generally a very chilled out day.

In the evening it was my friend Laura's birthday party, which I blogged about here.

YouTube videos - well, there are FAR too many, but the gold medal goes to this 'round' of Innuendo Bingo - a gameshow on Scott Mills' radio show on Radio 1. For those who are unfamiliar, it's a pretty immature yet amazing game where you are challenged to hold water in your mouth, whilst clips are played from TV shows which sound a tad rude/funny. If you laugh, you generally get the other person wet, and it is hilarious!

I've chosen one from last week, where Luisa from this years' series of The Apprentice gets pretty much... soaked.

Next up is 'Sinners' - the new EP from one of my favourite artists Lauren Aquilina. I was in LOVE with her 'Fools' EP last year and was trying my best to not go crazy waiting for her new material. The production has evolved since her last effort, and teamed with her raw vocals they blend together to create something pretty darn special. The 4 tracks are uniquely beautiful and come together to create a cracking piece to listen to when relaxing, in the shower or bath, even in the car. In fact, I challenge you to find a place where you can't listen to this... (apart from a club of course, and if you want to be a lil' sarky bastard and say the library... headphones my friend... headphones.)

You can buy the 'Sinners' EP here, from iTunes. Go do it.

I haven't read a book in a long time, but I have started reading the newspaper again, just to y'know, improve my awareness of what's going on in the world. My favourite newspaper is the Metro, which you can find free at any train station in London, but I don't really fancy travelling ages every day to get one, so I just download the app, which is free, and totally amazing. My favourite part is the Rush Hour Crush, where public transport goers leave anonymous-ish love letters to other passengers in the hope they'll see them and fall in love (see picture above.)

My favourite outfit has got to be my red sailor-y shirt from Jacamo teamed with black jeans and black shoes. At work, my dress code was smart-casual, so I was allowed to wear just a shirt and black jeans, and I think I wore this combo very regularly, there's something about the nautical feel that just made me happier than wear a simple plain blue shirt. It's weird the kind of power clothes have...

Ahhhhh, I'm addicted. So flippin' good.

My favourite app has been Scrabble - it started off with just a nostalgia buzz but now I'm pretty much addicted. You can play against friends, and it can get pretty competitive. It's free on the App Store too which is always a bonus...

I don't watch much TV, if any at all, but I have been seriously loving the new series of Whose Line Is It Anyway. The host is actually the woman who played Joey and Ross' girlfriend Charlie in Series 9 and 10 of Friends which is a cool bit of a trivia - I did wonder what had happened to her.

The show still has the same essence of the classic series, with lols-a-plenty and some incredibly genius improvisation - it's just brilliant.

So I could go on for hours but I'll stop now, if you've been loving anything let me know and I might end up checking them out, and I'll see you back here in 31 days for my August faves!
