Apple & Cinnamon Porridge

11 January 2015

I've come to discover that porridge is potentially the least photogenic food ever. It doesn't look too great in real life either, but anyway, that bowl of muck you see above is actually very, very delicious.

I've always been put off by porridge; I don't know if it's the texture, flavour, or if I had some kind of porride-related-trauma when I was little, but it's taken me a long time to pluck up the courage to try it again. I've experimented with flavours and ingredients, and have found apple and cinnamon to come out victorious thus far - congrats lads.

Ingredients:
(I don't like it as sloppy as recipes tend to turn out, so my oats:milk ratio is a bit different)

300ml milk
70-75g rolled oats (try 50-60g for sloppier porride)
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 apple (cut into small chunks, with or without the skin)

Method:

1. Pop the milk, ginger and cinnamon into a pan, and heat gently for a minute or two.

2. Add in the oats, and stir everything together for another minute.

3. Add in the chunk of apple, and continue to stir for a couple of minutes. This'll give the apple a chance to soften up a little.

4. Serve when ready, and add any toppings. (Sometimes I go for a handful of raisins, a few slices of banana and/or an extra sprinkle of ginger.)

Et voila. Breakfast sorted.
