Catch Up: 100-51 / 50-21

Well, here we go - the top 20 songs of the year. I can tell that we are all very excited, so let's get straight into it, shall we?

20. Paramore - Still Into You

It's always good to see an artist or band switch things up a little bit, and Paramore took on more of a poppier sound for 'Still Into You.' It still has their trademark sound, and feels exactly like a Paramore anthem, but even more catchier. The video was colourful, Hayley's hair was questionable, and the track gave the band their best chart performance to date, spending 10 weeks in the top 40.

19. Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree

Even now, I feel a bit hmmm at charting a Christmas song so high, but who cares when the song is this good. I was getting just a little bored of hearing the same Christmas songs every year, but Kelly's provided us with a modern day anthem, which may not have set the charts alight, but made my holidays about 29% better. It's infectious, fun and Kelly sounds amazing as always - good job Ms Clarkson.

18. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

The winner of the most flattering screen cap goes to... just kidding, but video aside, there's no denying this song was good. If you push all the controversy and everything back, Miley did put out some good music, and whilst my enjoyment of Wrecking Ball may have been elevated by an array of parodies and covers, it was still a brilliant track.

17. Zedd - Clarity (Ft. Foxes)

What a tune. Should've done better.

16. Avicii - Wake Me Up

It's that song that starts out as a country song and turns into an anthem. It's also that song that doesn't credit the singer, but it is indeed a tune.

15. Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix)

Summertime Sadness wasn't my favourite track from Lana's debut album, 'Born To Die,' but this remix, that surprisingly stormed up the charts over the summer, really injected some life, and my love into it. I don't think anyone expected Lana's voice to work over a generic EDM beat, but it did, it really did.

14. Little Mix - Change Your Life

It trod on the fine line between being an inspiring anthem or just plain cheesy, but luckily Change Your Life stuck to the former, and went on to become one of my favourite songs of the spring. I'd be lying if I said my favourite part wasn't the production and instrumental, but yeah - good job girls. I wonder if you'll be making another appearance hmmmmm?

13. Lily Allen - Hard Out Here

After her beautiful Keane cover became one of the winter's biggest hits, Lily surprised us with this, well, masterpiece. A fuck you to the music industry, from a woman's perspective, Lily parodied everything inappropriate about the business these days... twerking, having scantily clad dancers pouring champagne over each other seductively, and claiming that she has a 'baggy pussy.' The song was also pretty flippin' good.

12. One Direction - Kiss You

I don't even care - this song's amazing.

11. OneRepublic - Counting Stars

This was a bit of a surprise hit, which saw Ryan Tedder and co. return to the heights of the chart with this, what I can only describe as a soft-anthem. It's catchy, easy to sing-a-long to, but not too in your face... perfect. You can also tell that I'm already getting to the point where I just can't describe things well - good luck with the top 10!

10. Lady Gaga - Applause

It was a pretty big song for Gaga to come back with, and the video was pretty bonkers - as per. The production was top notch, the lyrics were typical Gaga lyrics, and the song was just great. See what I said about descriptions...

9. Iggy Azalea - Bounce

This is the song that made me stand up and notice Iggy Azalea. Bounce was the perfect mix of Iggy's signature rapping, an infectious hook and a killer drop that was perfect to twerk to, no lie. As you can tell from the screencap, the video was pretty great, and elaborate.

8. Britney Spears - Work Bitch

Britney's comeback, which wasn't really a comeback, was actually a comeback to Britney's true form as she released this EDM anthem. Yes, the lyrics were quirky and questionable. Yes, the track is a bit messy. Yes, that does add to the overall brilliance. Also, that drop though, and that feeling like you actually want to 'get to work, bitch.'

7. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble

I don't think anyone expected Taylor Swift to come out with a song which had dubstep influences in it, but she did, and it was great, and it was parodied by a goat, and it was still great.

6. Olly Murs - Dear Darlin'

I do love a good Olly Murs ballad, and Dear Darlin', a beautiful yet slightly unstructured track, is probably winning the race at the moment. Good job, Murs.

5. The Saturdays - What About Us

They finally got that elusive number one, and what a track to do it with. I have many highlights, including 'ohwhyareweawaitingsuhlongamsuffacaytin' and 'you get me exciteh,' alongside the infectious chorus, and random Sean Paul moments. Oh Sean.

4. Marina and the Diamonds - How To Be A Heartbreaker

It was one of the messiest releases, ever, but we finally got '... Heartbreaker' in March. Even with an on air, on sale tactic, that was announced on the day, it still made the top 100. Whilst I don't think we'll be seeing Marina work with people like Dr Luke again, it'll be nice to have this to look back on, as Marina tries her hand at commercial pop music.

3. Icona Pop - I Love It (I Don't Care)

We had to wait a long time for this one too, but it was worth it, and this became my song of the summer. Sidenote, check out the Kidz Bop version of this, the censoring is hilarious... 'I drove your car across a bridge... I DON'T CARE.'

2. Ellie Goulding - Explosions

You don't know how many power moments I've had to this - on the bus, in the car, laid in bed, in the shower, cooking - singing along, or even lipsyncing to the chorus is just, a great feeling.

1. Little Mix - Move

What a lead single. It's different, it's innovative, it's just pretty flippin' brilliant. There are no words. Well done girls.
